You all know that when I write, it's usually within a day or two of whatever's happening but I wrote this in the middle of the night a couple weeks ago and hadn't felt like reading it while being fully awake until now. Well, fully awake might be an understatement right now but I'm definitely more awake than I was when I wrote this. So here we go...
The Padres have been making some notable, for them, moves this off-season but none notable enough for me to really care about. I honestly couldn't tell you any of the moves we have made with the exception of the Logan Forsythe trade and even at that, I could only say it was a 5 for 2 kind of deal. The Padres of course being on the generous side and sending the 5 players to Tampa for 2. Now, I haven't looked up the stats on the guys we received because I don't even know their names but I do know both are pitchers (hooray!!) and one is a minor leaguer. Along with Logan, we sent Boxberger. Who as you remember was acquired in the Latos trade (that I still hate), leaving us with a broken catcher and an average 1B. Alonso is slowly growing on me but sometimes I swear I can play a better 1B than he can. Anyway, I don't remember who the other 3 players we sent are so, oops. I'm not saying this is a bad trade but it continues to make me questions the Padres trading abilities. Obviously they sign/trade for players under an assumption that they will remain healthy and or that their minor league numbers will translate into big league production and it will all work out but the Padres have some of the worst luck with this. I like that we are attempting to make moves, I just wish luck was on our side and that for once we wouldn't get the shitty end of the stick. I'm tired of being a sad Padres fan. Oh yeah, there was also the whole keeping Chase for another season thing. That was not my favorite move.
In other baseball news, my all time favorite baseball player not named Ken Caminiti is no longer dead. I'm pleased and saddened to announce that Grady Sizemore signed with the Boston Red Sox but you guys already knew that. If you recall, my second post ever on here was about why I thought the Padres should sign him. If you don't recall you can find it here. There were talks that Grady was going to sign with the Reds and that pleased my little baseball heart. If he wasn't going to return to the Indians or sign with the Padres, at least he was going to be with a team that comes to Petco every season and at the very least is in the same vicinity as the Padres spring training facility. And then my little baseball heart was crushed when I saw the news that he signed a deal with the Red Sox. The Red Sox are one of my least favorite teams and I have no explanation for this but they are. To find out one of my all time favorite players signed with them almost made me want to cry. I even questioned whether or not crying was acceptable and then I remembered "there's no crying in baseball" and went on with my day.
As I mentioned in the attached post, Grady when healthy is beyond amazing. His accomplishments speak for him. However, as was mentioned, he is injury plagued. That mans love and passion for the game is stronger than his body. I had a brief conversation about Grady on twitter and said that I would trade Cam for Grady any day. Don't get me wrong, I like Cam but both are useless when playing through an injury but Grady when healthy, there are no words. Grady can get it. Now if Cam can stay healthy I'd be thrilled, still would prefer Grady but I'd be happy to settle for Cam. In a perfect world, the final sentence in my response to a comment would happen... "put a healthy Grady with Cam and we might not even need a third outfielder." Obviously, we'd need a third outfielder but with how much ground each man can cover when healthy, the third outfielder would more or less be backup in case the ball for some unknown reason gets by Cam and or Grady. At least that's how my mind is choosing to play out this scenario. Best of luck to Grady and fingers crossed he stays healthy.

Awkward
Let's cut to the chase, Garland is on my tv and I'm not going to be mad if he kicks our ass. The better he does, the longer I get to stare at him. However, the minute he gets taken out we need to immediately get our asses back on track and win this shit.
Waaah, the Rockies scored first. Way to take away my baseball high. Padres are losing 1-0 and my favorite in game reporting has to go ahead and pop up and annoy me more than this small deficit. No shit, new chick, it's hard to read the ball off the bat. I didn't need you to relay that info from Cam or Roberts to me. Pretty sure it's common sense to anyone who has spent even one drill in the outfield. Can we please just get rid of the in game reporting?? It's going to drive me batshit.
Two back to back hits for the Padres followed by a walk, loads the bases with no outs in the top of the four and we have a chance to test my theory from last season. We did get a run in though it leaves a perfect opening for a double play to end the inning. Yep, called that double play. Now Cam, clearly didn't watch that episode of Sport Science where sliding into a base is actually slower than running it out. I'm not saying he would have been safe had he ran it out because I didn't see just how close it was but he would have made it even closer. As for my theory, I'll pass for now.
Ugh, Cabrera fucks up and that fuck up allows the Rockies to take back the lead. Seriously, someone remind me why we still have Cabrera. Rockies scored again and all my baseball high that I had at the start of the game and the little I regained when we tied it, is beyond gone. Why do we have to do stupid shit all the time?! And again, with the awkward and stupid shit to make it 4-1 Rockies and to think, we had a bases loaded, no outs chance and we only got one run out of that. Le sigh. Isn't this the kind of shit they're supposed to work on during spring training?? If not, they might want to consider it for next year.
Quentin's double in the top of the six allows for him to be driven in to make it a 4-2 game before more stupid shit happens and the inning ends. Quentin does not belong on an NL team. I don't care what you say, his knee is a liability and that slide he did to make a double, scared me. Don't do that!! You're fragile.
Welp, the Padres aren't coming back from this one. Cashner gives up a two run shot to make it 6-2 in the seventh. Good fucking job, Cashner. Thanks for reminding me why I hate you... besides that disgusting beard. Yes, I realize we are playing at Coors Field and anything can happen but it's the Padres, we are done. Yay!! Some of the awkward and stupid shit happened to the Rockies and we scored. Shortly after, a fan ran on the field and we don't get to see it. WAAAAAAAAAH. I want to see it!! I need some entertainment if the Padres are going to lose this 6-3.

Warning: Ridiculous Post Ahead
I was just informed that Grady Sizemore is a free agent this season and you know what that means, it's time for another ridiculous "the Padres should get Grady" post.
Okay, so we all know that I adore Grady Sizemore and have since '07 and that him being plagued with injuries has heartbroken me. It really sucks to see a player, with as much talent and passion as Grady, be on the DL for more games than he's played in during a season... or seasons. Grady was always fun to watch and let's face it, he is an extremely attractive man. His defensive abilities were my favorite to watch when I'd get the chance to watch Indians games. Sure, his offense wasn't bad to watch either, at first, but it was his defense that sold me. I loved watching him layout to make catches or scale the wall to take away homeruns but with all the injuries those defensive skills are only a memory.
Now why would the Padres want someone so injury prone?? Well, they wouldn't but our team is already injury prone so we might as well have someone who is a fantastical player when they are healthy than someone who is only decent enough to play for the Padres when they are healthy. Besides, we know the Padres like to sign players that used to be great and now are mediocre at best. As far as I know, the Padres are working with Quentin, Maybin, Denorfia and Venable for their OF's once again. Honestly, I'd rather have a broken Grady than Deno and Venable. Grady has had knee problems but so has Quentin, we'd obviously need Deno and Venable to play backup in case a new injury occurs or an old one flairs up.
What's the harm in getting Grady?? Welp, I was going to say Grady is younger than Quentin so I'd have more faith in him getting back to his old self but I just googled it and they are the same age. So much for that theory. Yes, Grady plays center and yes, we have Maybin playing there but I'm sure we could move Grady to left or right and he wouldn't complain because, well, he'd be on a team. I highly doubt he is willing to give up on something he's worked so hard to get. I know I wasn't ready to quit gymnastics when I had to and I was just doing it for fun. Grady has mentioned before that he enjoys playing in Petco so there's that too.
There's a reason I said this was a ridiculous post, because I'm just throwing out my thoughts and not basing it off of facts or anything, just pure "I want Grady so I can have someone to stare at when the Padres are getting their asses kicked" ridiculousness. My first Grady post was a lot better and I apologize for this one. It's all over the place and like I said, ridiculous. Like, 38 kinds of ridiculous. With all the crazy I just wrote, I'd be probably die if the Padres actually did get Grady because this is all kind of a big joke to me. Yes, I want him but I don't see it ever actually happening. Hooray for ridiculously high hopes.
